Gone Garden VR

Room-scale heritage reconstruction

2018

A room-scale VR reconstruction of the historic Yunnan Garden, blending photogrammetry and procedural art with a dynamic, exploratory soundscape.

Gone Garden is a room-scale VR reconstruction of NTU’s original Yunnan Garden, built in Unreal Engine 4. The environment blends photogrammetry assets and hand-modeled elements to evoke a memory of the site rather than a photoreal copy.

Development focused on optimizing the experience for smooth VR performance—reducing draw calls, implementing LODs, light baking, and efficient shader usage to maintain stability and high frame rates within a large open environment.

Iterative prototyping balanced visual fidelity, interactivity, and frame optimization to deliver a fluid, contemplative VR experience where history and imagination converge.
